The Ferry Inn is an inn in Norfolk on the River Bure below the Wilderness, and near the Ferry which crosses a dyke. Boats have been cast off at Ranworth, and Dorothea asks if the Ferry, which is hauled by chains, runs at night (BS14).
So Bill asks his Aunt Alice who works at the Ferry Inn. She hear them chains rattle last night .... and she wonder what’s going so late. She heard the chains only once so she must have been asleep one of the times. Now they know that someone has cycled to Ranworth that night. (BS14).
