"You'll have all coots and all mothers on your side" (Ella Dudgeon, CC6)

Coot may refer to

  • a (human) resident of the Norfolk Broads (cf foreigner): Note that George Owdon is described as a Norfolk coot (CC6). Not getting mixed with foreigners is first duty of a Norfolk Coot (CC7). When Jim Wooddall (who was Norfolk like Tom) sees the notice about the casting-off of the Margoletta he thinks that the other people were probably to blame. Foreigners anyway are not pleasant folk .... those chaps can cover the place with paper before anybody give him away (CC12).

Members of the Coot Club are often called Coots, but as some of them (the Ds) are foreigners the term Coot may not be synonymous with membership of the Club.
